Newsletter no 12- Week Ending 9th June 2023

We are delighted to announce that we, Colliers Green Primary School, have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:
Class 3 Netball tournament winners
Year 5 Athletics winners
West Kent Girl's football semi finalists
Class 4 won both matches in Dulwich Cricket Festival
21 participants in the Rawlinson Run
2nd place girl's football hosted at CG
16 participants in Dulwich Athletics Festival
Class 3 and 4 football victories.
Hosted 3 multi school tournaments and 5 sports matches vs one other school.

With a total 55 of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to:
Mr Warburton for helping out with football and running clubs.
Mr Lloyd for helping with cricket club.

We look forward to applying once again in 2024!

The Big Cat Sanctuary

On Thursday 8th June Class 3 went to The Big Cat Sanctuary at Headcorn.   What a great day it was.    The class learnt all about rainforests and the type of animals that live there and conservation issues and what they can do to help.    They also got their hands on real items for big cats;  skulls, fur and claws!  Then we had a tour of the Sanctuary to see some of the most incredible cats.

Thank you to Mr Warburton for coming along as a helper.

Eco Schools Green Flag

We are very pleased to tell you that our Eco-Committee have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

We received feedback that; 'Action Plan is really strong and substantial, containing impactful activities for your chosen topics. The real highlights for our team were your plans for the Marine and Global Citizenship topics'

'You have provided practical and fun curriculum examples, spanning many different curriculum areas, which impressively build on the projects you have worked on in your Action Plan. This is a great way to add a real-world context to your Eco-Schools work – it gives young people at your school the opportunity to learn about important environmental issues and then the chance to work on these issues. A powerful dual approach!'

A BIG THANK YOU to our Green Team and to Mrs Moorhouse, whose tireless dedication to all things 'green' is so inspiring to our children.
