Sports Premium
The Department for Education has awarded a PE & Sports grant to schools which will be reviewed in 2022. Our school has been allocated £16,920 for the academic year of September 2022 to July 2023. This is given to the school in instalments.
This funding has been used to develop and enrich our PE and Sport provision. It is focused through specialist sports coaches from Premier Sports working alongside class teachers to create coverage and progression across the school in one hour PE lessons for each class. These sessions run on a Friday of each week. To further encourage participation for the less active children, specialist lunch time clubs are offered twice weekly. These clubs are free for all children to attend. Allocation is organised throughout the year to ensure all age groups can participate. Children have been trained as sports leaders, to empower them and promote a positive self-image as far as their sporting achievements are concerned.
Alongside the curriculum support provided by Premier Sport, there are sports clubs run before and after school. These have been chosen to encourage children to try different types of sport. These are reviewed each term and changed if the interest is not there. The staff and children are consulted when new clubs are offered, to gauge interest and promote the clubs through assemblies. Children are invited to free taster sessions to increase participation. School will send any publications from Premier Sports home to parents.
The school expects participation in PE sessions to increase as well as the skill level of the children to progress. Through specialist teaching, the school also expects to see children thoroughly enjoying their sports and especially committing themselves to more after school sporting activities. Involvement and progression are measured termly alongside Premier Sports.
Through the team teaching approach, the teaching staff will bring the learning into other parts of the curriculum. For example through RSHE; healthy living, team work and understanding how their decisions impact upon others around them.
