It definitely feels like Spring is on the way. We read a lovely poem about Bird's Nests which told us about the ways 15 birds constructed their nests. The children then paired up to make birds and look for colourful caterpillars around the woods. We then chatted about which colours were hardest to find and how colour works as camouflage against predators.

We discussed its appearance, its uses, its benefits, its symbolism and the folklore surrounding it. We then got to work preparing my favourite Forest School recipe of the year so that we could taste them!!

As we walked to the woods, the children were intrigued by the morning dew that looked like snow on the field - we looked closely at the individual water droplets. When we got to the meadow, they thought the dew covered long grass looked like frothy clouds.

We went through our promises & boundaries under the shelter of the kitchen. Our voices had to battle the rain and it was quite a challenge to hear each other over the sound of the rain pounding down on the tarpaulin! We all agreed, however, that the sound of the rain was rather magical and it wasn't long before we could all get out and start playing in it.

Luckily, whilst the thunder rumbled and the lightning cracked outside the Den, we felt safe and dry. We played games and learnt about the fire triangle and fire safety.

The Meadow Browns were excellent at remembering their Forest School promises and the ways in which they could keep themselves, each other and woodland safe. This meant there was plenty of time to reacquaint themselves with the woods and to play.
