Newsletter No 5 - 12th November 2021

Next week.....

Is Anti-bullying week and we will be talking in school about this with a special assembly on Monday with Mrs Salter.    Please send your child into school on Monday in odd socks (and full uniform) with a donation which we will collect for the Anti-bullying Alliance.

Friday 19th November is Children in Need day.    Mrs Gibbs and the school council have organised some fabulous lunchtime games and activities so please send your child in with a purse of small coins (5, 10 and 20 pence).   For £1 they can come to school in own clothes (or Pudsey outfits if you wish).    At the end of the day there will be a cake stall with contributions from Colliers Green staff.  Please support this day!   All proceeds directly benefit Children in Need.

Choir

There is a new choir for children of all ages and musical abilities starting at St Dunstan's Church in Cranbrook. Anyone is free to come along and try it out, and no audition or musical knowledge is required - just a desire to sing. The choir is being run by Dr Michael Robertson, Director of Music at St Dunstan's and Director of Music for many years at Marlborough House in Hawkhurst. There are plenty of adult community choirs in the area at the moment, but hardly anything for children, so I really hope that this might fill a gap. If you want more information, please contact Michael at michael@mrobertson.me.uk. Otherwise, just turn up. The choir meets at 6.00pm on Thursdays at Church House, which is opposite the main entrance to the church. Practices go on for about 40 minutes. Everyone will be made very welcome!

Leather material/old leather clothing (it doesn't have to be real leather).

Any of these items gratefully received.

Thank you!

     PTFA

AUTUMN FAIR – Saturday 20th November 2021 10am-2pm, Vestry Hall, Cranbrook.

LAST CALL….If anybody has any donations for the stalls please contact the PTFA or leave items at the school office.

We’d particularly welcome delicious homemade produce  (chutneys/jams/cakes/savory snacks) teddies in beautiful condition or gifts for the craft stall.

CHRISTMAS SHOP Thursday 16th December 2021 – this year we’re introducing a shop at the school whereby parents can purchase a token in advance via Parent Pay.  Each class will have an opportunity to visit the shop during school hours that day, where they’ll be able to choose a present for their family member and pay with their token.  The gift will be wrapped and labelled, all ready for the child to give to their chosen recipient on Christmas Day.  This, of course, is a voluntary option.  Other schools have offered this service to their pupils and the children have absolutely loved having a bit of shopping independence and, in fact, have demonstrated a wonderful skill at choosing a perfect gift for their Mummy or Daddy!

How can you help?

  1. We’d very much welcome any donations of suitable gifts in new condition for the shop which can be left at the school office.  So, dig out those lovely but not needed presents and re-gift them to the school!  Examples could be socks, toiletries, scarves, gloves, note lets, photo frames – and don’t forget the Daddies, there is often a shortage of mens’ products!
  2. If you have any spare decorations such as ribbons or bows and wrapping paper, perhaps you’ve bought a roll but have only used a little from it, please donate this.  The children would be delighted to see their thoughtfully chosen present wrapped and ready for the big day.  You can pass these on via the office or Tally Rix at school drop off/pick up.

MONEY FOR NOTHING – With the lead up to Christmas many of you may be shopping via Ebay and Amazon.  Please take a moment to sign up to the Easy Fundraising and Smile Amazon options which donates money to the school for every purchase you make.  It literally couldn’t be easier, just go onto Ebay’s easyfundraising.co.uk and Amazon’s smile.amazon.co.uk, choose a charity (Colliers Green CEP Primary School) and start shopping!

NEXT PTFA MEETING – Thursday 2nd December 2021 at 9am after morning drop off.  Location will be at the school.  As always, everyone is most welcome.  We totally understand that everyone’s busy with work or home commitments and please don’t feel you have to come to every meeting, just a one off or on an adhoc basis is absolutely fine.  We’d just be delighted to see new faces who may, perhaps, be able to offer fundraising ideas or feedback to the committee.  Although we’re currently all ladies, the PTFA is open to Daddies and Grandfathers too, in fact I often ‘volunteer’ my husband for little jobs which, as you can imagine, he loves!

SUGGESTIONS – If you can’t commit to the PTFA or it’s simply not your thing, but perhaps have an idea for fundraising that we could consider, please feel free to contact the PTFA on colliersgreen.ptfa@gmail.com.  Often, an event held by another school that struck you as popular or successful, could be mirrored at Colliers Green, so pass the idea onto us and we’ll see what we can do.  Similarly, if your child or children have attended an event that we’ve put on and you have feedback – positive or negative – we’d love to hear from you!

Remember, the success of the PTFA’s fundraising events directly benefits your children, from pantomime visits, school trips, new books, Forest School, Father Christmas presents and lots more...

Clubs

Uptake of clubs is pretty poor unfortunately and so we are looking for your support in attendance to continue to offer them.   It's simply not financially viable to run clubs with 2 or 3 children.

Premier Sport have reduced their fees and so why not take a look at what is on offer?  Also clubs such as Dance and Ball Skills are really good value for money!

Please offer your support.   If numbers don't improve we will have no choice but to cancel them.

Remembrance Service Sun 14th November

Miss Hopkins will be attending the remembrance service at St Dunstan's at 10.45 on Sunday if any Colliers Green children were attending it will be nice to have them join in the parade and help lay the wreath at the war memorial.

If you are coming along with your children,  please can they wear school uniform.

Thank you
