Newsletter no 4 - Week Ending 15th December 2023

Thank you!

Thank you to our amazing PTFA members who have really out done themselves this year with Panto Trip, Christmas Shop, Christmas crafts and the most wonderful Christmas Fair.

Your financial support for all these events is gratefully received,  all funds raised directly help the children in school with all sorts of extra curricular activities and supplies.

Thank you to Mr Warburton, Mrs Rix and Mrs Stirling to helping us to run afternoon clubs.

Thank you to all the families who have brought in gifts to staff,  it is so very kind of you to think of us at this time of year and treats are always welcome in the staff room!

Finally, thank you to those families who have very generously purchased items via our Amazon Wish List to the school.    So lovely to receive some wonderful new books and much needed materials.

Meet the Govenors

Some of our newer parents may not have had a chance yet to meet our school governors.

The Governing Body is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the school. There are 12 members, all of whom are volunteers. Seven are ‘foundation governors’ appointed by the diocese, two are elected as parent governors, there are two teacher governors (one head teacher) and one appointed by Kent County Council.

You are likely to see governors out and about and at school events, but they would also like to introduce themselves to you in our newsletter.

First up is Jo O’Driscoll.  Jo was originally elected as a parent governor and now stands as a foundation governor. She sits on the Finance and Premises Committee and on the SESC committee, which is responsible for issues such as curriculum, teaching and learning and safeguarding.

“I joined the governing body when my two daughters were at the school. They are now both in secondary school, but I feel so grateful for the happy, warm and supported start that they received at Colliers Green.  I care deeply about the school – I was closely involved in the new build project in 2019/2020, in securing the planning permission for the car park, and in setting up the new(ish) school website. Although my own children have moved on I live very nearby and remain actively involved (you may see one of my daughters helping out at hockey club!).

In my day job I am a communications and PR consultant, working with major charities, businesses and government departments. As well as enhancing communications between the school, parents and the community, I am particularly interested in supporting co-curricular clubs and activities such as sport, art and music."

Parking around the school

Please can we offer a gentle reminder to park and drive carefully around the school.   There are often children and parents around on the roads.  We would ask that we stick to a maximum 20 mph limit whilst in the school zone.   Please pull away carefully, we have had near misses in the past and we don't wish to run the risk of anyone seriously injured.

Thank you.

Forest School

Year 4 start their six weeks of Forest School on the first Friday back after Christmas.

You will have received information via Studybugs in this respect.

Merry Christmas from Miss Hopkins

It seems like a lot has happened this term, so I'd just like to echo the thanks at the start of the newsletter. Colliers Green is the lovely place that it is because of the  hard work of the staff, parents, and of course, children.

I hope you all have a lovely couple of weeks off. We look forward to seeing you in 2024 for another successful year.

Merry Christmas!
