Newsletter no 7  -  Week Ending  10th February 2023

Message from Miss Hopkins

It's really hard to believe that we've reached the end of another term! At last the trees are starting to bud, and the snow drops are peeping through the soil. There have been lots of lovely things to celebrate this term, and a fair number of them have happened in the last couple of weeks! I hope you have a restful half-term break, and we look forward to seeing you when it's warmed up even more.

Online Safety

Thank you to the parents who attended the online safety session earlier this week.

Classes 3 and 4 have also had a lesson to learn more about keeping yourself safe.

Mrs Salter will be sending out information and links for parents via Studybugs.

Stone Age Workshop

Class 4 were lucky enough to have Rachel from High Weald Heroes visit us for a morning. She brought with her some boxes containing real stone age artefacts that the children were able to investigate and curate. Class 4 were also able to dress up in Stone Age costumes, draw with charcoal and practise grinding seeds to show how flour was made.

Chirping chicks

What a joy it has been to watch 7 chicks hatch and grow over the past week. Class 1 have been so excited to observe the changes that occur each day. They have all created their very own chick diary to record these changes and have enjoyed drawing and writing about the chicks. Of course, the real highlight has been the daily handling sessions with the chicks. The children have been very gentle and loving towards the chicks. We were very sad to wave them goodbye this afternoon but we were assured they are off to a very happy home.

FAB First Aid

This week, each class was lucky enough to learn some FAB first aid. In an age-appropriate manner, the children learnt what to do in an emergency, and how to treat burns, bumps and cuts. Many of them also learnt how to do CPR, which surely now makes Colliers Green one of the safest places on earth!

World Book Day

This year, World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March. We are inviting the children to dress up on the theme 'Bedtime Stories' . Children can dress up as any character from one of their favourite bedtime stories, or they can come in dressed in pyjamas and bring along a book that they love to read before bed.  Equally, if your child would prefer not to dress up at all, that is no problem at all.

Egyptian Day

There was much excitement last week as Class 3 enjoyed their Egyptian Day. It was lovely to see so many fabulous outfits! During the day, the children enjoyed lots of interesting activities including:

  • papyrus paper making
  • Team building - making the strongest pyramid out of straws and tape
  • Flatbread making (and eating)
  • Egyptian Writing
  • Painting scarab beetles
  • Reading the Egyptian Cinderella
