Classes 3 and 4 took part in a competition to build a working model of some form of medieval weapon. Technology, teamwork, creative thinking, decision making and working to deadlines were all key skills needed for this task.
Battering rams, siege engines, trebuchets and catapults were designed and tested throughout the morning before a winning team was selected. This group of children will go on to represent the school in Rochester later in the year.
Well done to the winners and we wish them lots of luck in the finals.
What the children said:
'I really enjoyed working with my group to create a catapult. It was really fun and I learnt a lot about machines.'
'It was amazing. Time went so fast and we had to start again with only 2 minutes of time remaining. I could not have done it without the encouragement of my group.'
'This challenge really tested our skills.'
'My group made a catapult. IT WORKED!'
'It was exciting to see what other groups made.'
'We came across a few problems on the way...but we managed to solve them!'
Safety in Action - May 2018
Year 6 pupils attended 'Safety in Action', an interactive event to help them learn about some of the dangers they may face as they become more independent and prepare for transition to secondary school.
Topics covered included: peer pressure, online safety, drug and alcohol awareness, basic first aid and safety issues concerning water, railway lines, electricity and fire.
We hope they have shared their knowledge with you.
First Aid Course
Year 6 children spent a valuable day learning about life saving techniques and basic first aid.
Rewind to Easter
Year 5 children returned to Hawkhurst Baptist Church for an afternoon of Easter activities.
The begonia bulbs that they planted will act as a symbol of new life - if they remember to water them! keep indoors until May and then enjoy the blooms in summer.
Athletics Competition - January 2018
Well done to our Key Stage 2 Athletics Team who participated in a variety of track and field events at the Weald Sports Centre. (Unfortunately , they moved so quickly that most of the photos were blurred!)
The Year 5 children recently attended this event at Hawkhurst Baptist Church. Fun quizzes, film clips, re-enactments of the Shepherd's Story and a craft activity enabled the children to consider and reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas.
Well done to our children from Class 4 who have been selected to form our new School Sport Organising Crew (SSO Crew). These children will be responsible for developing, organising and promoting sport for all children at Colliers Green.
They have had a training session at The Angel Centre in Tonbridge where they were given the opportunity to start planning and discussing their ideas.
