It's been a busy first few weeks back at school, and the children have settled in to their new classes beautifully. Thanks to all who attended the 'Meet the Teacher' events this week. We hope you found them informative and useful.
Reception children will be full time as of next week and their Year 6 buddies are very excited at the prospect of seeing them at lunch time! Class 1 will have their first school photo taken next week, ready for the Kent Messenger.
We've managed to attend two sporting competitions already, and massive well done to those children that took part in the Rawlinson Run or the WOKSSA football tournament. Further details below.
The children have been learning about democracy over the last couple of weeks, and have had the opportunity to cast their vote when electing House Captains and School Council reps. Well done to all the children that put themselves forward and spoke so well. See below for the names of those that were successful!
New Build update: the contractors will be officially 'handing over' the buildings next week, and the majority of the fencing around the newly-laid turf will be removed. We will finally be able to start to see what the finished school looks like!

Well done to our eleven, brilliant runners who represented Colliers Green at the Rawlinson Run on Friday 13th. I could not have been prouder about the way they all ran, they all had such a positive attitude and showed a wonderful team spirit in their support of each other. They were the only school who had a high five line up at the finish and watching them cheering their team mates with a high five summed up the whole event. It was a hot afternoon and the distances were challenging - but they rose to the challenge and we had some great results. Special mention to Sophie who finished 8th out of about 90, and Oran who charged in at 10th in a similar number of runners. But well done to them all - Charlie, Jack, Florence, Esther, Max, Eva, Calypso-Rose, Emily and Jamie.
The staff and parents would also like to extend a HUGE thank you to the wonderful Mrs Addis who organised and encouraged the children so well at the event. We feel very lucky to have been injected by her enthusiasm for exercise and running in particular. The morning running sessions are having such a positive impact both mentally and physically on the children.
We will be celebrating Harvest Festival on the afternoon of 11th October, where each class will share some work that they have done whilst learning about the significance of this event.
We would thank you for any non-perishable food donations, which will be collected from Monday 7th October and will be delivered to a local foodbank.
Thank you to all those who have downloaded the Study Bugs App, our new illness notification service. For those yet to do so, please see details below.
This App is also a useful tool to send messages home (replacing the Text Message Service) so please sign up so that we can stay in touch!
Parent Governor vacancy
You should all have received a letter this week detailing how to apply to become a parent governor. Please return all applications by the 2nd October and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to speak to Mrs Hirst.
Please can we remind parents to let the office know if your child is having packed lunches on any day. If we haven't had a Choice Form returned to the office it is assumed that your child is having dinner every day and may be charged for this. Unfortunately, we have a large amount of dinners going to waste where children have been provided with a packed lunch and we are keen to avoid such waste. Thank you.
The whole school had a visit today from GB paralympian Emma Wiggs. What an inspirational lady she is and thank you so much. We will follow her progress at Tokyo 2020 with keen interest!
